Institutional Clients
Y-Haven, YMCA of Greater Cleveland
Y-Haven is a live-in facility on Cleveland’s Southeast side specializing in residential treatment and support for those seeking recovery from a Substance Use Disorder. Deep Dive Art Projects, led by Bellamy Printz, was brought in to curate a new collection of art throughout the building.
Since the residents at Y-Haven are split by gender between floors, Printz hosted separate focus groups for the men and women to learn more about what art would be best used on each floor. Through the insights gained through these one-on-one consultations, Printz chose artwork that reflects themes of recovery, safety, support, and personal growth. Images based in nature were chosen to evoke a sense of calm, while posters and quotes with words like “evolution,” “coming out of your shell,” and “making the most of it” grounded the space with relatable and attainable messaging. Floor four features images of community and arts, floor five includes images of Cleveland, and floor six includes inspirational quotes.
Since the artwork has been installed, residents and staff have said that the art makes common areas feel more welcoming and that work reinforces a sense of care and belonging.
